Who Marc Daniel Nelson Is

The mixer, sound engineer, and producer Marc Daniel Nelson is one of the few exceptional talents who, with absolute passion and love for music, have a remarkable career.

His dedication to music brought him to the most prestigious studios in the US, where he spent much time with legendary producer Bill Schnee. He had the pleasure to refine the recordings of top artists like Eric Burdon, Fleetwood Mac, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, Reik and Robert Duvall.

He mixed music and trailer for many films and has worked on hundreds of productions over the years. A highlight of his career was the Latin Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Pop Vocal for the song "We only Tonight" which he produced for the Reik album Des / Amor.

Meanwhile, Marc focuses on producing music for television and movies such as Blade Runner, The Vietnam War, Wild Horses, Point Break, No Manches Frida, Father Figures and The Expanse.

"The first thing i put it in was actually this album and it just enhanced it to the point where i was so excited that i kind of found a new colour that instantly gave me a smile."

The Video: Marc Daniel Nelson and the Schwerkraftmaschine

Marc is a fan of bus compressors and when he heard about the Schwerkraftmaschine, he just had to try it out. Why the sound of the Schwerkraftmaschine brings a smile on his face, you can find out in his video:

Why the Schwerkraftmaschine Is a Bus Compressor for Fans of Bus Compressors

The Schwerkraftmaschine has the all-analog vari-mu signal path of our Vari Tube Compressor – three transformers and four triodes per channel, which give the signal its tube colour. The control signal, however, is generated digitally, which is why one unit can offer eleven different compression modes, from classic vari-mu through opto and VCA behaviour to programs that don't exist in analog form: Multi-Band Complex, Diode Pressor, Breakthrough, Stereo Transformer, Vari Tube Compressor, Vocal Leveler, Optical Compressor, Drum Smasher, Classical VariMu, Chart Analysis, DeEsser. Every control sits on a servo motor; the unit can be operated on the front panel, in a browser or via the DAW plug-in (AU, AAX, VST), and the settings are saved with the song – for a mixer who recalls projects again and again, that is the decisive difference from classic hardware. How other engineers judge the Schwerkraftmaschine: Al Schmitt mixed with it at Capitol Studios, and Pro Tools Expert gave it an Editor’s Choice Award. We also visited Bill Schnee, with whom Marc worked for a long time, by the way: Bill Schnee on Schwerky, Raumzy and the VTRC.
