VCA Compressor in API 500 format
A track can sound right on its own and still refuse to come forward in the mix, no matter how far you push the fader. A bus can be cleanly mixed and still fall apart into individual tracks instead of holding together. Both are classic jobs for a VCA compressor.
The MythVCA 500 was built for exactly this work: a VCA compressor in a 500-series slot that leaves nothing out. Use it to bring a track to the front of a mix, to glue your mix bus together, or to even out a signal right at the start of your recording chain.
As gentle or as hard as you want
Three ratios (2:1, 4:1 and 10:1), attack times from 0.1 to 30 ms and release times from 100 ms to 1.4 s cover the whole span from soft, unobtrusive compression on a single track to a tight grip on the bus. Let the first milliseconds of a hit pass before the compressor grabs, and the transients arrive intact. You compress as gently or as hard as you want, without cutting the life out of your tracks.
A release that listens
If you would rather not think about release times at all, switch the release to Auto. The MythVCA then listens to your signal and releases the compression as musically as possible, following the material instead of a fixed time.
Complete, down to the details
A low-cut filter in the sidechain, adjustable from 60 to 120 Hz, keeps a busy low end from pumping the whole bus: the compressor stops reacting to the deepest frequencies while the sound itself stays untouched. All potentiometers are stepped, so a setting can be written down and dialed in again. For stereo, the linking bridge is already in the box: connect a second MythVCA and the two modules work as one stereo bus compressor.
The compressor of the 500 family
Within the Tegeler family, the MythVCA 500 is the compressor of the 500 series, the module with the full set of controls, on single tracks as well as on the bus. If all you want is to level vocals with two knobs, the Vocal Leveler 500 does that with less effort. For tone instead of dynamics, there is its neighbor, the MythEQ 500.
