The Schwerkraftmaschine won the Sound on Sound Award 2018 in the category "Best New Effects & Processing Hardware"!

The coveted prize is awarded each year by Sound On Sound magazine to particularly innovative products from the pro audio industry. The readers chose their highlights from the newly released products of the last 12 months out of 18 categories.

What the SOS Awards 2018 Were About

According to Sound On Sound, the 2018 awards were the first to put the emphasis on innovation and contemporary design: only products launched in the twelve months before the vote were nominated – from September 2016 to the end of August 2017. That is exactly when the Schwerkraftmaschine hit the market (December 2016). The winners were chosen by the magazine's readers, and the results were published in February 2018.

We are very happy to have won the SOS Award and thank all of you who voted for the Schwerkraftmaschine!

What the Schwerkraftmaschine Is

The Schwerkraftmaschine is a vari-mu tube compressor whose control signal is generated digitally: the signal path stays entirely analog – three transformers and four triodes per channel, the same tube signal path as in the Vari Tube Compressor – but because the control comes from a processor, one unit can offer eleven different compression modes: Multi-Band Complex, Diode Pressor, Breakthrough, Stereo Transformer, Vari Tube Compressor, Vocal Leveler, Optical Compressor, Drum Smasher, Classical VariMu, Chart Analysis, DeEsser. Every control sits on a servo motor; the unit is operated on the front panel, via the built-in web server in a browser or through the DAW plug-in (AU, AAX, VST), and the settings are saved with the song – total recall for analog hardware. Add a side-chain filter (low-cut up to 300 Hz or tilt filter), a mix control for parallel compression, and the option to split the unit into two independent mono channels via the plug-in.

What engineers value in it is shown by Pro Tools Expert's Editor’s Choice Award and Al Schmitt's mix at Capitol Studios.
