Zed Marty's review of the Schwerkraftmaschine
Zed Marty, an audio engineer, producer, guitarist and songwriter based in Graz, Austria has been testing our Schwerkraftmaschine intensively in his studio.
After a week with the Schwerkraftmaschine he can only say one thing: "It's basically the best compressor that I used so far!"
He made 2 videos right away, the first one is a review of the Schwerkraftmaschine and the second one shows several sound examples without talking.
What the Schwerkraftmaschine Is: A Vari-Mu Compressor with Eleven Modes
The Schwerkraftmaschine is our remote-controllable vari-mu mastering and bus compressor. Per channel the signal passes through three transformers and four triode tubes – they give the instruments presence, tidy up the bass and round off the highs. The control signal (the side chain) is generated digitally: eleven compression modes recreate the behavior of well-known compressor types, plus purpose-built programs that exist in no other compressor – Multi-Band Complex, Diode Pressor, Breakthrough, Stereo Transformer, Vari Tube Compressor, Vocal Leveler, Optical Compressor, Drum Smasher, Classical VariMu, Chart Analysis, DeEsser. A side-chain filter (low-cut up to 300 Hz or tilt filter) additionally determines what the compressor reacts to. Every control sits on a servo motor: you operate the unit on the front panel, via the built-in web server or through the DAW plug-in (AU, AAX, VST) – save the song and the settings are saved with it, load it again and every knob is back where it was. Via the plug-in the Schwerkraftmaschine can also be split into two independent mono channels.
