What the VTRC Combines in One Unit
Four stages, one signal chain: a tube mic preamp whose character you set with the gain control from clean to fat, a passive Pultec-style equalizer, a Vari-Mu tube compressor and an opto compressor voiced for vocals. Both compressors can be combined, and EQ and compressor can each be switched before or after the other stage. Add line and instrument inputs, 48 V phantom power, phase reverse, low cut and a large VU meter. Two VTRCs can be linked for stereo.
What the Channel Strip Is Built For
Vocals first. Mic in, pick the preamp character, set presence and body with the EQ, opto for the dynamics, Vari-Mu for density and color. It works the same way as a front end for guitar, bass or synth, and via the line input as a processing channel for tracks coming out of your DAW.
