A 500-Series Vocal Chain: The Question

MythEQ 500 and Vocal Leveler 500: What the Two Modules Do
The MythEQ 500 is our active equalizer in API 500 format with four bands: a low shelf (50 Hz to 450 Hz), a low-mid bell (80 Hz to 1.3 kHz), a high-mid bell (1 kHz to 16 kHz) and a high shelf (3 kHz to 10 kHz), each with six stepped frequencies and up to ±15 dB of boost or cut; input and output transformers from our own production give it the Tegeler character. The Vocal Leveler 500 is the opto compressor from our Vari Tube Recording Channel in 500-series format: input transformer, opto circuit, followed by a FET for the warm, tube-like finish. It is operated with two knobs (gain reduction, output) and two toggle switches – in/bypass/link for stereo use of two modules, and attack/release fast, auto, slow. It keeps the level steady without destroying the micro-dynamics, and works on bass or acoustic guitar as well as on vocals.
Together they make up exactly the chain Iulian builds in the video: the Vocal Leveler catches the dynamics, the MythEQ shapes the tone – two modules, stepped controls, recall without a notepad. How the MythEQ 500 came about is in our 2021 announcement.
