Daft Punk - or why analog still sounds a bit better

With this album, Daft Punk delivered one of the best-sounding records in recent memory. Listening to current albums on HiFi headphones is usually a nightmare — "Random Access Memories" is a commendable exception.
The following quotes from the production process are especially interesting:
The album was recorded meticulously and sounds enormously expensive… the sound quality is in perfect balance with the musical quality. The level of detail is astonishing…
We decided early on that analog technology should be a major part of this project. …decided…to also keep our hands off plugins…
We find digital compression in particular unappealing, and everyone uses the same plugins these days anyway.

In general, though, I didn't spend a long time fine-tuning the individual tracks. The mix wasn't anything special — it was simply about balancing things out and adding a bit of ambience.Many people who have switched from a pure plugin mix to analog equipment have made the same experience described in this article.
The individual tracks simply fit together when mixing and harmonize with one another.
Mixing becomes much easier than with purely digital tracks.
